- KURE ATOLL MEDICAL DIRECTION SERVICES
DLNR/DOFAW is the operator of a research station located on Kure Atoll located
approximately 1,200 miles Northwest of Oahu. DLNR/DOFAW has full-time, rotating staff stationed on Kure and hosts researchers and volunteers at various times. The remoteness of Kure Atoll and lack of immediate access to medical care has caused DLNR/DOFAW to seek remote medical consulting services to provide medical assistance for DLNR/DOFAW staff and visitors to Kure Atoll.
Specifications Summary:
(a) Provide licensed physicians available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week 365 days a year to provide telemedical consultation to DLNR/DOFAW staff and visitors located on Kure Atoll. Service shall ensure prompt response to calls, texts, and video communication.
(b) In coordination with DLNR/DOFAW provide advice and recommendations.
Review medical resources, including but not limited to pharmaceuticals (prescription and over-the-counter), equipment, and other medical supplies, and assist DLNR/DOFAW in procuring the pharmaceuticals and supplies necessary to sustain appropriate care for personnel on Kure Atoll.
(c) Consult as requested on, operations and equipment related to providing medical
assistance on Kure Atoll volunteer scope of practice and generally advise DLNR/DOFAW in on-island medical protocols.
(d) Coordinate six (6) month inventories of all pharmaceuticals and supplies and
assist DLNR/DOFAW with restocking all necessary items.
(e) Provide a qualified physician designated to serve as the primary medical director to manage the services provided for the term of this contract.
(f) Provide continued support via telecommunication for care required at Kure Atoll pending evacuation. The first contact would be a text using an InReach Garmin device. Then an email would be sent to doctors with details of the case. If immediate assistance is required staff will attempt to call doctors using the Iridium phone.
(g) Arrange Medical Evacuations in coordination with DLNR/DOFAW, including facilitating specialty services and referrals to medical facilities in Hawaii.
(h) Maintain Emergency Board Certification and medical licenses in Hawaii,
and consult specialty physicians when appropriate.
