- A coordinator on the island of Oahu for the purpose of improving health outcomes for incarcerated individuals and the State of Hawaii by increasing access and reducing barriers to preventative, prenatal, and postpartum health care services. It is the goal and mission of the MCHB to provide leadership to assure healthy outcomes for the women, children, and families of Hawaii.
Pregnant incarcerated women have higher rates of poor perinatal outcomes, such as miscarriage, preterm infants, and infants who are small for their gestational age, compared to women in the general population. Both adolescents and adults in prisons should be offered comprehensive prenatal care, including education, lactation support, and opioid use disorder treatment that continues beyond the end of pregnancy. - Contact Person
