Elepaio Surveys, Monitoring and Predator Control
Description of Services
Approximate time frame: January 2026 to August 2026
Elepaio Monitoring and Predator Control
• Rat control in 40-45 already established and previously controlled Elepaio territories in the Honolulu Forest Reserve, Wailupe Section.
a. Rat control method must be capable of continuous take over the period of deployment using repeater type traps. All predator control activities must follow Federal and State regulations. Control shall be limited to rats/mice only; methods used must be determined to have little or no incidental take.
• Monitoring Elepaio populations, including:
a. Territory occupancy
b. Nest Searches to determine success,
c. Capturing and banding Elepaio and reading/recording color bands. Must have proper banding/capture permits from the USFWS and DLNR.
• Perform comprehensive survival analysis using mark-recapture methods for publication in scientific journals.
• Produce a comprehensive report of all activities and results regarding predator control.
• Produce report of nesting effort and success of resident Elepaio pairs
Deliverables
1. Distribution, nesting, and survival reports based on data collected during monitoring period.
2. A detailed report of predator control activities listing specifically method. Report should include estimated or confirmed take, trap deployment days, number of traps, locations, and other relevant information
3. Shapefile of locations/territories in ArcGIS format
Special Conditions
a. The report shall be submitted by August 31, 2026
b. Vendor must be HCE compliant to receive any payments
c. The bid submitted shall include all applicable fees, taxes, or any other costs associated with this project.
d. If requested, the vendor shall submit any permits, licenses, or documentation authorizing work with Elepaio in the Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve and the resumes of any employee assigned to this project to demonstrate relevant experience in carrying out the project objectives. - Contact Person
